Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) – Train Transport Guide
Schiphol Airport has a railway station located directly beneath the terminal, making train travel the fastest and most efficient way to reach Amsterdam and other cities across the Netherlands.
You can reach Amsterdam city centre in just 15–20 minutes by train.
Train services operate 24/7 and connect Schiphol with over 100 destinations nationwide, as well as international routes to major European cities.

Train to Amsterdam City Centre
The most popular route is between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Centraal Station, located in the heart of the city.
- Travel time: 15–20 minutes
- Frequency: Every 10–15 minutes
- Platforms: 1, 2 and 3
Trains run very frequently, so there is no need to book in advance for most journeys.
Types of Trains
There are two main train types connecting Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam:
- Sprinter: Stops at Lelylaan, Sloterdijk and Central Station.
- Intercity: Direct service to Central Station with fewer stops.
The time difference between both is minimal (around 3 minutes), so either option is convenient.
Connections Across the Netherlands
Schiphol is one of the main railway hubs in the country, offering direct connections to cities such as Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven.

The train station is located directly below the airport terminal, with easy access via escalators and lifts from Schiphol Plaza.

Contactless payment (bank card or mobile) is the easiest and fastest way to travel.
Amsterdam Travel Ticket
The Amsterdam Travel Ticket allows unlimited travel across trains, buses, trams and metro in Amsterdam.
It includes the Airport Express Bus (397) and train connections within the city.
